Keith James brings history close to home

Keith James gaves us a virtual tour around the Bailey in Durham.
Across the Bailey was the residence of Michael Ramsey past Bishop of Durham who in his belief in returning the cathedral treasures to their rightful owner threw them into the River Wear from Prebends Bridge.
Along the Bailey is the Church of St. Mary the Less and across from it St. Johns College the residence of the Bowes family (often visited by the late Queen Mother).
Again crossing the Bailey, we come to St. Helens Chantry Chapel, the oldest known street in Durham.
He also gave us an introduction to some of its more interesting occupants of these Georgian homes. The Polish count, Count Boruwlaski (all 39" of him), lived on the Bailey with his wife, the Liddle family (their granddaughter Alice was to become famous thanks to Lewis Carrol using her name in Alice in Wonderland) and John Gullet, who became UK Boxing Champion, home owner and racehorse owner
