Charlie Imm  RYLA

The Club welcomed Charlie Imm, accompanied by her mother and father, who came to talk about her RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) experiences. Charlie, a student at Ribston Hall, was our chosen candidate on the course in July 2017.

At the beginning of the course each candidate had to state what personal goals they had set themselves, Charlie’s were to overcome her fear of heights and to be more confident in public speaking. The week’s course had different challenges each day and Charlie had prepared a slide presentation of each challenge, her involvement and if it contributed towards achieving her set goals. Clearly, from the presentation, her enthusiasm and commitment to actively participate in the various challenges showed and she met her goals and more.

Charlie is currently studying for her ‘A’ levels following which she hopes to read law and politics at college. No career plans after college, however her longer term ambition is to become an MP. On hearing that comment one member of the Club from Churchdown asked if she was good at lying, where did that cynical view of our MPs come from?

A young lady who should go far and it’s good to know the Club may well have helped her towards whatever she chooses to do in the future.
