International Day of Peace

Children from St. Mary's primary school, Clayton-le-Moors proudly show their Pinwheels for Peace

Rotarians Roger Brunt and Russell Bond visited St. Mary's primary school in Clayton-le-Moors, near Accrington and talke to the whole school in the morning assembly.  They introduced the idea of Pinwheels for Peace to the children to celebrate the annual International Day of Peace which takes place on September 21st. Some children completed their pinwheels on the spot, but others in Year 2 waited for the actual date to finish off theirs.

The Pinwheels for Peace  projects was started in 2005 by two art teachers in Florida.  In the first year 500,00 pinwheels were planted and by 2016 there were some four million pinwheels throughout the world.  These pinwheels create a visual public statement about peace.  To find out more about the project follow these links :
