Club Wins Two Awards

East Sutherland Rotary Club President John McMurray was absolutely delighted when the club was announced winner of 2 awards at the recent District Council Meeting attended by some 200 plus members from across the country.  The club was presented with both the Youth and PR award.

The local Rotary club has reached almost a mythical regard in Rotary circles for all the youth work that it carries our under the chairmanship of Fiona Risk.  This includes:-

4 Primary School Rotakids clubs—Brora, Rogart, Lairg and Dornoch

2 Interact clubs in the Dornoch and Golspie secondary schools.

Rotary Youth Leadership camps and awards.

The provision of Mock interviews for over 100 students every year.

The Primary inter-school Quiz for all the county schools.

Help with special needs, with theatre and dance, with so many organisations that the young of our county rely upon.  As District Governor for most of Scotland Roddy Duncan said it was a well deserved Trophy for a club that is showing Rotary in Action.

However, not to be out done by his wife, Alistair Risk who is the clubs Press officer, received the District PR Award for the club and took the opportunity to underline the importance of the Northern Times and local papers in general in helping charities like Rotary to gather support and members who help deliver Service Above Self
