This week’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw it one of the highlights of our year, the Club’s annual Burns Supper.
Due to the numbers attending, the Supper was held in the Centenary Suite at Fir Park Stadium and what a great night it was.
In a break with tradition, our main contributors were women, in idea, we are sure, the Bard, himself, would have welcomed.
Our piper for the evening was Sarah Muir, originally from Campbeltown, but who now stays in Glasgow.
The ‘Address to the Haggis’ was given by Sandra Brown, OBE, founder of the Moira Anderson Foundation, who also gave a very humorous ‘Ode to the Anstruther Fish Supper’, both being well received.
The ‘Immortal Memory’ was given by Susan Wilson, Principal Officer of the U.S. Consulate General in Edinburgh. Susan, in her second visit to the Club, gave a wonderful talk on ‘Burns from a Woman’s Perspective’.
Lady Susan Haughey, CBE, the recently appointed, Lord Lieutenant for Lanarkshire gave the ‘Address to the Laddies’.
The company were also entertained by Moira Kerr, a very talented singer and guitarist.
During the course of the evening, a raffle, held in aid of the Kilbride Hospice, raised in excess of £800. Lady Haughey is a Director of the beneficiary charity.
The vote of thanks
was proposed by Senior Vice President Andrew Steven.
