Club Meeting

Speaker: Raj Singh Kohli - Hounslow Police

raj

This is well known Scottish comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli who is Raj’s brother. In fact, Raj has two brothers who are professional comedians. It should have been no surprise therefore that his presentation to us was light-hearted and had plenty of comic content

Raj joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1992. In 1999 he was promoted to Inspector and, in 2001, completed the Senior Investigators Course and moved to the Borough of Brent as the Detective Inspector in charge of pro-active operations, before moving into the investigation of major crimes.

In 2006 he was promoted to Chief Inspector and was made the operational lead for the policing of South Brent. Shortly after, he moved into a central policy unit before being promoted to Superintendent and moving to Camden, where he oversaw significant reduction in gang crime, youth crime and gang-related violence.

In 2012 Raj played a key role in helping deliver the London Olympics, being in charge of policing all parallel events across the 16 Boroughs south of the River Thames.

In 2015 Raj became Chief Superintendent and Borough Commander for Hounslow. This was a move that he requested, from the then Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Met.

Raj, during his presentation was at pains to reassure us that Hounslow was in fact one of the safest boroughs, but there remain problems particularly in areas such as:

·         Missing persons

·         Grooming

·         Domestic Abuse, and

·         Sexual abuse by persons known to or family of the victim.

Discussion focussed fir a period on drug crime where those present were able to provide evidence of their own witnessing of dealing taking place in certain areas of the borough, often in better residential areas.

It was a most enjoyable meeting for the 21 attending.
