Home-Start Bury was founded nearly 14 years ago as an independent charity by parents and practitioners who wanted to provide support for parents during the formative years of a child's life.

They are part of a national and international charity that offers a unique service that helps families who are experiencing difficulties whilst bringing up young children. They provide families with support and guidance through the everyday challenges faced when raising children. They recruit and train volunteers, who are usually parents themselves, and then match the volunteer with a family. Often, parents find themselves unable to cope with the stresses of everyday life when raising a child. They are a lifeline to many local families. Their volunteers are experienced local parents who wish to help other parents. For a volunteer to visit families regularly in their own home, they need to have a child under 5.
