Penzance Rotarian Lutz Eiser and a friend embark upon an epic motor bike ride to privately deliver two motor scooters to Bansang in Gambia.

Penzance Rotarian, Lutz Eiser, and his friend, Fred Buckingham, are currently journeying from Penzance to the Gambia using scooters which they will donate to a local hospital.

Another great day, stopped early as we wouldn't get to Dakhla by nightfall. Only covered 127 miles. Very hot. Road 9/10 except in a few places 3/10. The horizon disappears into heat haze and the road is straightish. Little traffic apart from big trucks. A bit of a disaster last night as we didn't stop till late. Hotel £6 for the two but grot. People lovely, we only meet café waiters, petrol pump attendants, hotel staff and the police. So far they have e all been great. Hotel tonight £13 with internet.

Very arid, no road kill. Seen very little animal life apart from dogs, cats, goats, donkeys, horses and camels. We may have a rest day in Dakhla before the long drive to Nouadhibou and Mauritania. Little bikes haven't missed a beat and we have had time to do a little maintenance today. We always check the oil at each fuel stop approx 100 miles. We bat along at 40/45 mph which is a reasonable speed for the 125 engine.

General plan - up at 7am and on the road for 8am but this rarely happens. Hope to be off at 7 tomorrow but we will see. It's cool in the mornings so we hope to get a few hours in before it gets hot. As they say it's the journey and not the arrival that's important and this journey is everything you could hope for. We know we are very lucky to be doing this. Had to get our 500 D from the hole in the wall today.

It is costing us about £6 for petrol, £15 accommodation and £10 for food. NO BEER.

Long day tomorrow, poor old backside.
