We were all very sorry to hear that Elaine had been taken ill on holiday in Cyprus and had to have a pacemaker fitter. The Club sent her very best wishes for a full recovery.
Sue Vargyas:
Sue has had her knee replacement and is now back at home and is progressing well. She hopes to be at the meeting next week and would be grateful for a lift there.
David Bowley:
David thanked the Club for the get-well card. He was given a great send- off by RC Herne Bay when over 60 people from clubs all over the District braved the bad weather for a dinner at the First and Last to celebrate David’s 42 years of service to Rotary where he was presented with a Sapphire Paul Harris award.
Gideon Scott’s Funeral, Friday, February 23rd:
Gideon had a well-deserved, exceptional send off at Christ Church, William Street, Herne Bay where his funeral took place on February 23rd. Nick estimated that around 500 people must have been there of which several hundred gathered at the Clock Tower and followed the cortege and pipe band to the church. .
Hilary on Her Visit to India:
Hilary gave a fascinating talk on her recent visit to India where a party of 85 Rotary volunteers were giving polio immunisations to children. Hilary thanked the Club for the donations of small presents which had been very successful in persuading children to attend for immunisations. The group visited Amritsar, Delhi and Calcutta and Hilary then went trekking in Nepal.
Friday, February 23rd - Ten-Pin Bowling Evening:
The ten-pin bowling evening followed by dinner at the Thai Orchid was a great success.
Thursday, March 1st - Cancellation of Meeting:
It was unfortunate that the meeting last week was cancelled due to the inclement weather. Hopefully, everyone was alerted in time and no one struggled to get to the Golf Club on the day.
Thursday, March 8th - Board Meeting,:
There will be a Board Meeting this evening at Robert’s House at 7.30 pm.
Tuesday, March 13th - RC Canterbury Sunrise, Dinner in Aid of ShelterBox:
RC Canterbury Sunrise are holding a dinner in aid of ShelterBox on Tuesday, March 13th at The Red Lion, 75 High Street, Bridge, CT4 5LB and everyone is welcome. Details have been circulated and, if you would like to go, please contact Robert S. as soon as possible with your menu choice.
Saturday, March 17th - Car Parking:
The next car parking will be on Saturday, March 17th and Godfrey would welcome more volunteers so please sign-up if you can help.
Sunday, March 18th - Clay Pigeon Shooting:
Go along and have a go at clay pigeon shooting at Greenfields Shooting Grounds, Sturry Hill, CT2 ONG. The cost is £20.00 for 25 shots. Please get to Greenfields by around 9.30 as shooting starts at 10.00 am. There will be breakfast in the café afterwards – not previously as in the folder – but Paul does need to give the café manager an idea of numbers so please sign up if you plan to go along.
Thursday, March 22nd - Evening Meeting:
The speaker will be Emma Slade of Opening Your Heart to Bhutan. Guests are welcome. There is a menu and form in the folder. This is a regular meeting of the Club and apologies should be given to Godfrey as usual.
Friday, March 23rd - Walk4Water:
Everything is organised and David M. has circulated details to everyone down to help on the day. David M., Andrew B., and Hilary will be giving talks to schools taking part. 135 children are expected at the University with a further 650 taking part at their schools. David M. reminded everyone who is down to help that, as car parking at the University is restricted by building work, that they should try to car-share if possible. He also asked that everyone bring their mobile phones in order to keep in touch if necessary.
Friday, March 23rd - Lunch after Walk4Water:
The lunch after Walk4Water last year was a great success and Hilary is organising a repeat this year. Everyone is welcome to come along to the Blean Tavern, 4 Blean Hill, Blean, CT2 9EF where lunch is booked for 1.00 pm. Hilary needs to be able to give the Blean Tavern numbers and menu choices in advance and there will be a form and details in the folder.
Saturday, April 21st - Tools with a Mission Collection:
Volunteers are still needed so please sign-up on the form in the folder if you can help with the collection at Stocks on Cromwell Road, Whitstable or on The Green at Chestfield. The target is to completely fill the TWAM van and Andrew M. asked everyone to make an effort to contact neighbours and friends who might have redundant tools, sewing machines, laptops etc.
June 8th to 10th – Visit to Apeldoorn:
Andrew B. needs to give our Dutch hosts numbers of those that need to be accommodated. The Dutch really make a great effort to look after everyone very well and Andrew B. recommended the trip especially to new members. Lifts can almost certainly be arranged for anyone who does not want to drive. There is a form in the folder so please sign-up soon for a very enjoyable weekend.
Sunday, May 13th - Olde English Cream and Strawberry Tea:
Ron and Irene are very kindly organising an Olde English Cream and Strawberry Tea at their new home at 4 Richmond Road, Whitstable, CT5 3HS between 2.00 and 6.00 pm on Sunday, May 13th. There is a form in the folder.
Greetings from Other Clubs:
Nick brought greetings from the representatives of the many Clubs represented at the dinner in honour of David Bowley.
Master of Alms:
Paul was back in good form and Nick particularly suffered.

Andrew B. won a bottle of wine. Jean S. would welcome more raffle prizes.
