Our Young Chef Competition at Ayrshire College, Kilmarnock Campus

Tuesday 21st November saw us at Ayrshire College, KILMARNOCK Campus for our Young Chef Competition. A slightly late start as three of our entrants had mistakenly gone to the Ayr Campus (Note for next year - clearer instructions!). The students were from 2nd and 4th years this time and everyone showed excellent imagination and cooking skills to such an extent that we had a three way tie for winner. However there must be one winner and this was decided on the complexity of the dishes attempted and our very worthy winner was Emily Johnstone of St. Joseph’s Academy. Many congratulations to Emily who now has the opportunity to represent Kilmarnock in the West of Scotland Final on 24th January 2018.

Our congratulations also to all those who took part for making this such a close run contest.

We must also thank Ayrshire College for all their help in organising this event, particularly John Govan and Douglas Stevely.

Emily subsequently went on to be Runner-up in the District Competition at South Lanarkshire College in East Kilbride in January, an marvellous achievement. That gave her a place in the Regional Final on 24th March in Alnwick, Northumberland.  Unfortunately neither she, nor Angus from Strontian, Ardnamurchan - our District winner, we’re successful at that stage though both displayed excellent culinary skills. The winner Laura Todd of Crieff High School,  sponsored by Crieff Rotary goes forward to the National Final in Telford in April and we wish her all the best.
