Weekly Meeting at SCCC

From our Cub Reporter Alison Brown.

Forty one members became forty two with the Induction of Rotarian Colin Ayres by President Colin, the first of his Presidency. Henry Besley introduced Colin to the Club and we all very much hope that he will enjoy his time with us.
The President also welcomed back John Binns after a short absence.

The Secretary informed the Club about a Burns Lunch being held by Wellington Rotary Club on the 22nd January, any members wishing to attend please contact Andrew.

Keith Bigwood then raised the question of Club House Committee Chairman and revealed that David Montgomery had volunteered to undertake this role. This appointment was then proposed by Tony Blackshaw and seconded by Derek Smalley, and carried. To take immediate effect.

Ten teams of four then had their little grey cells stretched by a range of questions set by Chris Loveluck, ably assisted by Phil Greenway. These ranged from how many balls of marzipan there should be on top of a Simnel Cake, to the meaning of “Carpet” in Betting, and the year of the Battle of the Armada. The Acronym round proved particularly challenging to those whose knowledge of “text speak” is rather limited. KISS seeming particularly appropriate in the circumstances (Keep It Simple, Stupid)!

Next Meeting: 15th January, Showcase for Taunton Opportunities Group.
Duty Rotarian Gary Davies, Speaker’s Friend Jas Shorney

22nd January, Historical Surgery - Mr King
Duty Rotarian Jonny Dunk Speaker’s Friend Terry Rowcliffe
