Literacy Art Competition

Annual primary school Lit/Art Competition

Literacy Art Competition

During October and November all 12 Primary Schools in Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston and West Kilbride take part in this competition. It’s run within schools, not between schools.

The competition comprises of three categories with a suitable book for each category being selected by each school. Once the pupils have read or been read the book they are asked to do the following.

P1-3 A drawing depicting what the child remembers best about the book.

P 4-5 A drawing and a short account of what the child likes best about the book.

P 6-7 Write a book report on the book.

Teachers judge the best three in each category in their own school and these are forwarded for judging by the library staff after the entries have been put on display in the local library. Certificates are awarded to all the finalists in each category in each school and a Prize of £10.00 and a winner’s certificate is awarded to the best in each category in each school. This year over 100 entries were displayed in the four local libraries.

The Prize Givings were well attended, especially at Saltcoats and Stevenston, where it was standing room only in both libraries.

Weowe a big "Thank You" to all the libray staff in the area for the wonderful displays they set up and the final judging.
