IPP Sandy Ritchie recieves PHF Award

Paul Harris Fellowship Award

Immediate Past President Sandy Ritchie was presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship award. Sandy joined Elgin Rotary Club in 2007. Since becoming a member, he has held many roles within Elgin Rotary Club but came to the fore when he agreed to lead the team for Marafun and Motorfun. He made this role his own, bringing new ideas both to the events themselves and to the administration of the meetings.  This Rotarian likes nothing better than compiling spreadsheets and timelines. He has put this skill to great use when steering his team through the many tasks and deadlines associated with these two events. Always looking at succession planning, he arranged for manuals to be written, covering each of the disciplines within the committee. This action allowed for the various duties to be passed around members while still maintaining continuity.

In 2016 this individual was appointed President of the Elgin Club, leading with his now renowned professionalism and efficiency.  As many of us in this room know, and as I now know, being President leaves very little time for anything else. But somehow this person managed, in his Presidential year, to champion two projects. The first of these projects was the introduction of a Rotakids Club at New Elgin Primary School.  With the assistance of his daughter Sarah, this club has gone from strength to strength and inspired other schools to establish Rotakids.

His second project during his Presidential year was to pick up the baton on Sally Magnusson’s Playlist for Life initiative which assists dementia sufferers through introducing music they have known in their lives.  By listening to music they know, memories are simulated and quality of life improved.  Through his personal support, drive and commitment, the local focus for this charity has grown considerably within Moray.  The Playlist for Life charity addresses a growing need in those identified as suffering from dementia in its various forms.  Through this person’s efforts, Playlist for Life is now being used in a number of Care Homes in Moray, a tremendous success which contributes to improving the quality of life of many dementia suffers.

Our nominee’s latest great achievement was to head up the team responsible for the organisation of the District 1010 Conference in Aviemore.

A Paul Harris Fellowship is not granted lightly by a Club and individuals who receive these awards have demonstrated great commitment and dedication.  They have given freely of their time to Rotary, and by their actions and leadership, have always surpassed the objectives of the 4-way test -TRUTH, FAIRNESS, GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS which are BENEFICIAL to all concerned.

Congratulations to Sandy from all at Elgin Rotary Club.
