The guest speaker at tonight’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw was Rotarian Jim Rae who spoke about his charity, Water for all Africa, and, in particular, STAG which is an acronym for Safely Treats All Ground water. The STAG Water Filter is an ingenious, newly devised, non-chemical based water filtering device, that safely removes contaminants of all kinds from water.
Jim’s, very detailed, talk gave the horrendous details of the numbers of deaths in rural Africa caused by the lack of potable water. Contamination, mostly, being caused by poor water hygiene at village well-heads and animal wastes and fertilisers soaking through to the water table.
In conclusion, Jim informed members that the aim is to give children in Africa a fighting chance at a brighter tomorrow, and a more fulfilling future, and he is hoping that this can be achieved by working with the local communities in the deprived areas of Gambia and Malawi.
