Nigel Bell and Tony Sanderson collecting around christmas tree 2017

The Rotary Club of Bishop Auckland held their usual collection at the Newgate Centre, Bishop Auckland on December 22nd – 24th.

The generosity of the people of Bishop Auckland was greatly appreciated as £1052.47 was raised.

The tree (much improved from previous years) was kindly donated by B&Q of Bishop Auckland

In addition to this Rotarian John Yeomans did a New Year’s Dip in the North Sea and his brave effort raised over £400.

The money raised by these two events has been shared between the Butterwick Hospice, The Great North Air Ambulance and the Rotary’s Charity Account.

On Jan 6th, the Rotary Clubs of Bishop Auckland and Crook carried out house collections of Christmas trees for recycling. Donations were made and all proceeds were given to the Butterwick Hospice. This was the fourth year of collecting, the number of trees reached 100 and the total amount collected was £730.

The rotary clubs would like to thank all those who donated and also give special thanks to GW Holmes for the loan of two vans, to Matthew Alison of All Seasons Arborists for shredding the trees at Woodhouse Lane allotments and to David Nicholson and Colin Dixon from Cultivate 4 life for their assistance at the allotment site, where the chippings were used on the footpaths.
