Double Celebration for The Rotary Shop

The Rotary Shop of Penzance celebrated raising over £100,000 for local community causes with its 5th birthday party on Saturday. The Presidents of the Rotary Clubs of Penzance (Matt Martens) and Mounts Bay (Zena Muth) welcomed Cllr Penny Young, the Deputy Mayor of Penzance to the Shop. Thirty volunteers and supporters enjoyed drinks and a slice of birthday cake.

The Shop opened in June 2014 and is a joint venture between the two Rotary Clubs. Operating from premises in Market Place, Penzance, the Shop is ideally placed to attract both local shoppers and visitors to the town. And over 200 Rotarians from all over the world have signed the visitors’ book.

The shop is staffed entirely by volunteers, both on the counter and in the stock rooms, and sells only donated goods. The entire surplus is distributed through the two Clubs to local groups and causes. Since opening, over £100,000 has been raised and distributed.

Dee Lucking, from the Shop Management Committee, said “Rotary has again shown that it supports the local community. I am delighted that our members and supporters have given so much time and effort since the Shop opened. We are also grateful to everyone who donates good quality items for sale. The result makes it all so very worthwhile.”

We are very excited to learn from Jess Colliver - Penzance BID Manager, that the Rotary Community Shop is the winner of a £250 prize and a shield for having attracted the most public votes for Sue and Nicola's Christmas Window display.
