Visit to Westons Cider Mill, Much Marcle, Ledbury, HR8 2NQ on Wednesday, 10th October at 11 am.

Meet in the Orchard Tea Rooms at 11 am for coffee/tea (£1.75 pp not included).

Tour, Tastings and Two Course Lunch in the Scrumpy House Restaurant

Westons Cider Mill is a very popular visit having 45,000 to 48,000 people a year. The business was started 135 years ago and is still family owned and they export to over 40 countries worldwide.

11 am Coffee/Tea in Orchard Tea Rooms

11.30 am Tour viewing cider making, processes, sampling and walking outside to view picking in the orchard.

SUITABLE FOOTWEAR ADVISED (Walking stick friendly but not all areas are easily accessible)

1 pm Lunch in Scrumpy House Restaurant (Pre-Ordered Main Course – see below)

Chicken and Henrys Vintage Cider Pie with Asparagus, New Potatoes

Ham baked in organic Wyld Wood Cider, Free Range Herefordshire Egg and Hand-Cut Chips

Fresh Fish Fillet in Sparkling Stowford Batter, Chunky Tattare Sauce with Herbs, Hand-Cut Chips

Hand-made Pork Sausages with Westons Old Rosie Cider, Parsley Butter Mash, Rich Cider Gravy and Red Cabbage with Apple

Baked Spinach, Mushroom, Hereford Hop and Perry Pancake with a Side Salad

A Selection of Homemade Desserts is available to choose from on the day.

Please advise any special diet requirement. (The chicken Pie in not Gluten Free)

An opportunity to purchase Cider, Perry etc. in the fully stocked Cider Shop!

Departure 2.30 to 3 pm approximately

Other Places to Visit

St Bartholomew’s Church, Much Marcle 13th to 15th centuries is worth a visit with its’ famous effigy and tombs. In his book “England’s Thousand Best Churches” Simon Jenkins callsLlady Grandison effigy “an image as lovely as any bequeathed us by a Medieval church…a work of supreme craftsmanship” and outside the South Door stands an ancient Yew Tree thought to be 1500 years old, its trunk so large that a bench has been constructed within it.

(Limited parking on the side of the road).

Or call into Trioscope Garden Centre between Newent and Highnam on the way home for a browse and a cup of tea.. Alternatively, pay a visit to the lovely market town of Ledbury with its significant number of timber-framed structures in particular along Church lane and High Street. Also, there are a wide variety of individual shops.

Directions

From Cheltenham take the Golden Valley to Gloucester and at the roundabout take 3rd exit to Ross on Wye (A40)

Follow the A40 across the next two roundabouts. At OVER after The Toby & Over Farm Market on the right move to the outside lane and take the right turn at the lights to Newent (B4215)

Drive through Highnam (30 MPH) and by-pass Newent (50 MPH) at the traffic lights turn RIGHT towards Dymock (B4215). Continue past 3 Garden Centres and straight through Dymock.

After several miles turn LEFT for Much Marcle.

Drive through Much Marcle until you come to a staggered cross road (Ledbury to Ross on Wye) March Marcle Garage is opposite. DANGEROUS CROSSING! Go straight over and after I mile approx. you will see Westons Cider on the right. Car park on LEFT.
