The Living Memory Group - extends a hand of Friendship

The Living Memory Group has been meeting at Narberth Museum for nearly 12 months.
Initially set up in March last year as a Dementia Cafe as an initiative by the Narberth and Whitland Rotary Clubto help people socialise we have received more and more requests from various people who don't have Dementia to attend the group. So we have recently decided to rebrand the group to invite anyone over 50 and to make it a Friendship Group.
The aim is for people to come along and have socialisation and a cuppa and enjoy themselves.
We also have recently revised the help of the newly established Narberth School. Rotakids Club to do some meaningful activities with the group. Last week everyone got involved with decorating cakes and great fun was had by all. The young and the young at Heart interacting socially.
Intergenerational activities are nothing new but we are trying to turn Narberth and it's surrounding rural area into a caring community which enhances the lives of both generations. The key is to change social norms to encourage relationship building between generations.
What has become quite apparent is the way the school children interacted so wonderfully well and we hope in the future to gain historical knowledge sharing sessions. Narberth Museum has wonderful photos digitally of the town and surrounding area and many of the group have worked in the town and can tell the children about Narberth years ago.
The group meets twice a month and we wish to invite anyone who is lonely, wants to make new friends who can come to the Museum and enjoy a cuppa.
Please ring the Museum on 01834 860500 for more details. Sessions are on every other Thursday between 1.30pm and 3.30pm at Narberth Museum.
