John Surtees gave an interesting talk on the work of the Friends of the Pentlands
The organisation was founded in 2003 to promote the conservation, protection and enhancement of the Pentland Hills, with particular emphasis on recreational quality, public access, cultural heritage, landscape and biodiversity.
Their remit covers the whole of the Pentland hills and all the work is done by volunteers which covers path maintenance, litter picking, gardening, and fund raising.
Two of the projects carried out in 2107 were improving the track from Crosswood to Sergeant Law and maintaining and improving the Harlaw Wild Life garden. John showed a number of slides illustrating the work being carried out.
An excellent walk is the 19 mile Pentland Way.
They have a number of publications available – some free and others at a small charge.
The club’s vote of thanks was given by Fraser Marshall.
