Inverness Loch ness Rotary Club are pleased to confirm that in conjunction with the charity Playlist for life, they will be running training courses for up to 64 staff in care homes throughout the Highlands on the Music for Dementia method developed by the organisation
Playlist for Life was set up by Sally Magnusson in 2013 after she witnessed the effect of music on her late mother’s dementia. She found that research showed that music can transform help conversation, give a structure to the day as well as improving mood and awareness.
Supported by the Rotary Clubs of Inverness, Inverness Culloden and Inverness Riverside, Inverness Loch Ness Rotary Club approached The Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation for financial support which has been approved and which will allow the training to be extended beyond the original area surrounding Inverness to all care homes throughout the Highlands, both NHS and private. In addition, it is hoped that a number of Rotarians will also receive training to enable them to assist individual families create personal playlists for their relatives.
Highland Highlife will also be supporting the project by displaying information in all libraries.
The Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation is a legacy project of the late Gordon Baxter and his wife, Ena. The organisation supports charities and worthy community causes throughout the North East and the Highlands and Islands. The Foundation is chaired by Gordon and Ena’s grandson, James Baxter
