Young Chef 2018
Alnwick students triumph in Rotary Young Chef District Final
Rotary North East England District Final for Young Chef took place at The Duchess’s Community High School on Saturday, 24th February. Four talented budding chefs competed to win a place in the Regional Final. With a budget of £15 and a 2 hour time slot they were required to cook a three course meal for two.
The standard was extremely high commented judge Phil Farmer, Top chef and owner of the Cook and Barker in Newton on the Moor as he assessed the presentation, menus, use of local produce as well as the finished platters. After much deliberating and tasting Hannah Taylor won the day with her vegan menu of Stuffed Chestnut Mushrooms to start followed by Three Rice Medley with Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Courgettes and Key Lime Pie as dessert. Calum Pritchard was a close second producing Chilli and Garlic Prawns followed by Chicken a la Provençale and Citrus Poached Pears. Both are students at The Duchess’s Community High School.
Rotary would like to thank Phil for giving his time and expertise, The school for the use of their facilities, Rachel Milburn from the Technology Department and wish Hannah and Calum the best of luck when they compete in the Regional Final which is also at The Duchess’s Community High School and will include 6 competitors from Scotland along with our finalists.
