Percy explained how he came into his present teaching role from growing up in Boghall, Bathgate, through an interesting variety of student jobs. Over time he worked in the food industry (whisky and meat!), on the Broxburn late buses, and at Bangour Hospital. His professional teaching career began at Edinburgh University and Moray House, with teaching placements in Edinburgh and West Lothian, before his first job at Wester Hailes Community High School. His special subject was maths, through which he co-authored several Primary Maths books for Heinemann. Following other appointments in West Lothian schools, Percy came to Currie HS in 1998, where he is currently Senior Depute with responsibilities over an impressive range of topics. Despite having a serious medical problem some years ago he was determined to continue teaching fulltime and it is only now that he is looking towards retirement from teaching (perhaps!) and taking on more Rotary assignments. Percy concluded with a rapid two minute slide show of what also happens in a typical High School beyond the curriculum.
Ken Lindsay gave the Club’s vote of thanks for this enthusiastic talk by one of our younger members.
