The base for the Eric Liddell centre in Edinburgh is in the former church at Holy Corner. It was named after the former athlete to promote his legacy. They are a Scottish care charity providing specialist caring services for the most vulnerable people in the community.
There is a day care service for dementia sufferers who are offered various activities including art, music, exercises and IT. They are then provided with lunch.
There is a befriending programme to support unpaid carers in the community.
Volunteer befrienders meet with the carer regularly to give them a break from their caring role. By supporting carers and giving them a break, helps to keep people supported in the community.
A foot care project helps people as they grow older as it helps reduce pain and increase mobility leading to a better quality of life.
A hospital discharge project supports people who are delayed in hospital.
There are several rooms of various sizes available to hire to other charities and clubs.
There are many and varied fund raising activities each year. The latest was a dinner where the two main speakers were Alexander McCall Smith, well known author and Chris Paterson, retired rugby player.
Caroline Clark, newly appointed to the S W  Villages project, then talked about her work.
The Eric Liddell Centre, through funding from Health and Social Care, is running a project to help decrease social isolation in people over 65 in the South West Villages of Currie, Balerno and Juniper Green.
It is known that the population in this area are growing older and so lowliness and poor health is becoming a problem. Caroline set out to discover what was required. The first thing to do was to raise awareness of the project’s existence. They realised that help with transport would be welcomed. To combat lowliness a befriending service has been started. People are told what leisure facilities are available locally.
The club’s vote of thanks was given by Andy Howard
