It is our Centenary Year and to mark 100 years of service to the local community of Nottingham and beyond we are fund raising for the Nottingham Hospitals Charity and their “Big Appeal” for the Nottingham Children’s Hospital. The “Big Appeal” ends in 2018 which coincides with the Centenary Year. The appeal is to raise £3,000,000 for the Nottingham Children’s Hospital at the QMC campus.
Part of this appeal is to refurbish and modernise living accommodation which parents can use when they have very poorly children in hospital. No doubt this facility takes a lot of financial pressure from families rather than paying for hotel accommodation as no doubt taking time off work would already have a massive impact on household finances. Having this type of facility no doubt has a positive effect on the children recovery because Mum and Dad are close by. Children and families from as far as South Yorkshire, Norwich and Northamptonshire use the facilities at the Children’s Hospital situated in the QMC campus and therefore the project has a far reaching appeal beyond Nottingham.
The estimated cost of refurbishing one of these areas of accommodation is £10,000.
We have spoken to the Nottingham Hospitals Charity and agreed we can have a placard above the doorway acknowledging our contribution to mark 100 years of serving our local community. This sits nicely with the placard that is already at the QMC for the Rotary Club of Nottingham. That placard recognises the bed our club provided to the old General Hospital in June 1918 which would have been one of the first project we undertook.
To raise funds President Paul is embarking on a sponsored charity bike ride from John O’Groats to Lands end. The ride will be over 10 days at the end of May 2018 and Paul has a team of 6-8 non-rotarians who are keen cyclists and keen to support this cause.
We will be contacting local rotary clubs along the route to get support and Publicity for the ride.”
