Minutes of  the Meeting

Held on Thursday, November 29th 2018

                                             At The Golf Club, Chestfield

Sue Vargyas:

The Club was very sorry to that Sue had lost her mother and sent her their deepest sympathy.

Christmas Decorations at the Whit and Tank:

Please note that the putting up and taking down of Christmas decorations at the Whit and Tank have been cancelled as the hospital is being redecorated.    The Matron sends her thanks to the Club for everything it does for the hospital.

Quiz Night, Saturday, November 17th:

The total raised at the Quiz Night was £1,422.00 which will divided equally between Demelza and Open Your Heart to Bhutan.

Friday, November 23rd – Cheese and Wine Party:

Many thanks to Ron and Irene for a very successful wine and cheese party at their home which raised £205.00 for Club funds.

Saturday, November 24th - Young Chef Competition:

This went very well for which many thanks are due to Kathy and Owain.    There were six contestants on the day and it was felt that the standard was higher than last year.    The winner was Olivia Simmons.

Wednesday, December 5th:

Could everyone who has volunteered to deliver the cards for the Christmas Collection please note that this should be completed by Wednesday, December 5th .

Friday, December 7th - Christmas Dinner:

A question was asked about the time for booking taxis at the end of the evening and Sue will check and circulate details.

Sunday, December 9th – Christmas Collection:

The annual Christmas Collection will be held on Sunday, December 9th meeting at Primrose Way, off Chestfield Road at 4.00 pm.     Elves are always welcome so if you can help please sign up by next week.

Sunday, December 23rd – Car Parking  at Whitstable:

Please don’t forget that we are running the car parking on Sunday, December 23rd when it should be very busy and Godfrey will need all the help he can get so please sign up even if you can only do a little while.

Friday, December 28th - Breakfast at the Lounge, Tankerton:

Please note the change of date to Friday, December 28th.    Guests are welcome and the cost will be £8.50 per person.     Please sign up on the form in the folder in good time.

March 22nd, 2019 – Walk for Water:

Apeldoorn proposed that the funds raised in 2019 will be sent to Nigeria and this will be discussed at the next Board Meeting.

Donations:

David M. confirmed that the agreed donations of £200.00 to the British Legion and £225.00 to Tony Giles had been sent off.

Crocus Corms:

These have all gone.    Thanks to everyone who took them.

District Grant:

David M. reported that the District Grant of £1,540.00 for Open Your Heart to Bhutan for more educational equipment had come through.

Suggested Twinning with RC Thimphu:    

Emma Slade has suggested that the Club might consider a possible twinning arrangement with the Rotary Club of Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, and this will be discussed at the next Board Meeting.

Layout of Tables at Breakfast:

A discussion took place on the new table layout which is because the Golf Club wants to encourage more of its members to use the restaurant area for coffees and meals.    It will not be easy to move the tables backwards and forwards but this needs to be discussed with the Golf Club secretary.

Greetings from Other Clubs:

Paul brought greetings from two cold members of Canterbury Sunrise collecting outside the Asda supermarket.

Raffle:

            Robert S. won a big box of biscuits.

Master of Alms:

Paul having got over the saying of grace stood in for Nick for which we were all truly grateful.
