Minutes of  the Business Meeting

Held on Thursday, January 24th 2019

Car Parking:

Car parking on January 19th raised £329.47 and there was £17.90 from the stall.   

Saturday, January 19th – Rotary Club of Herne Bay, Quiz Night:

The evening was not a great success as the Club table ended up almost at the bottom.

Saturday, January 26th – Young Chef Competition:

The next round of the Young Chef Competition will take place on Saturday, January 26th at London South East Colleges, Orpington Campus, The Walnuts (off the High Street), Orpington, BR6 0TE.      Doors open at midday and judging will be around 3.00 pm.   There will be a car park at the rear of the building with someone to show you the entrance.   Light refreshments will be available and food and drinks can be purchased in the college restaurant.    If  you can go to support our contestants please contact Owain (0788 0757905).   

Thursday, February 7th – Speaker Leila from Pilgrims’ Hospice:

The speaker on Thursday, February 7th will be Leila from the President’s charity, Pilgrims’ Hospice.

Thursday, February, 14th – Guest Breakfast:

This is a great chance to show guests and potential members what a fine lot we are so please try to bring someone along.

Thursday, February 15th – Ten-pin Bowling and Dinner:

Could anyone who is going to the bowling but not the dinner afterwards please email Sue to make sure that she knows? The menu from the Alimo Restaurant has been circulated and could everyone going to the dinner please send menu choices to Sue as soon as possible.

Saturday, February 23rd – Shelterbox Dinner:

Gill and Robert Sissons’ Shelterbox Dinner is now fully booked.

Sunday, February 24th – Car Parking at Whitstable:

The next car parking will be on Sunday, February 24th.     Godfrey needs help, especially on a Sunday, so please sign up if you can spare some time.

April – Possible trip on Naval Warship from Sandwich:

Ron put forward a proposal for a river or sea trip from Sandwich on a former small US naval warship possibly followed by an evening meal in the town and it was agreed that he should investigate it further.    The trips do not begin until April.

   Please make a note of the new date and sign up on the form in the folder       to help.

Friday to Sunday, June 7th to 9th – Visit from Apeldoorn:

Andrew B. outlined the proposed programme for the visit of Apeldoorn.

On Saturday, June 8th he put forward a trip by train from Tenterden to Bodiam with a guided tour of the castle.      A steam service leaves Tenterden at 10.30 am and returns at 4.30 pm with a cream tea on the return journey at £16.00 per person.   As the trains will be busy at that time of year, he needed a decision and it was agreed to go ahead and that 25 to 30 places.   The programme for the visit from Apeldoorn is as follows:

               Friday, June 7th:         Table tennis challenge evening

               Saturday, June 8th:     Train trip from Tenterden to Bodiam

                                                   Evening BBQ

               Sunday, June 9th:       Farewell breakfast

Volunteers to host our Dutch visitors are also needed.    There will be forms in the folder for hosting and for the events;  please sign up as soon as possible so that Andrew can make the necessary arrangements.

Saturday, June 15th – Barn Dance:

The Barn Dance will be held All Saints Hall, Church Road, Whitstable on Saturday, June 15th.    The cost will be £20.00 per person and please contact David M. for tickets as soon as possible.    Even if you do not plan to go please  do all you can to sell tickets to make the evening a real success.

Raffle:

Maureen won a bottle of wine.

Master of Alms:

As usual Nick managed to clean out small change from just about everyone.

Visitors and Greetings:

The Club quiz team brought greetings from RC Herne Bay and Robert S. from RC Canterbury Sunrise
