D-Day 75:
Today marked the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings on June 6th 1944. In tribute to those who stormed the beaches of Normandy 75 years ago today the Club held a minute’s silence.
Meal Steward:
Godfrey will be away for the next two weeks and Dave C. will be standing in. Could you also please note that Lesley will be taking over from Godfrey and apologies should be sent to her for the meeting of July 4th and thereafter.
Raffle Prizes:
Jean is very short of raffle prizes and needs some more urgently.
Tony Giles – LOST Fund:
Tony sent a note of thanks via Pippa for the latest donation of the Club to the LOST fund.
Friday, June 7th – Table Tennis Evening:
The welcome evening and table tennis challenge for our Dutch guests will be at Unit 33A, Joseph Wilson Industrial Estate, Milstrood Road, Whitstable, CT5 3PS (behind Tesco) at 7.00 for a 7.30 pm start with food being served first. Please remember to wear flat-soled shoes to play.
Saturday, June 8th – Trip to Bodiam Castle:
The train will leave from Tenterden Town Station, TN30 6HE at 10.40 am and every should aim to be there by 10.20 am. The drive to Tenterden from Chestfield is estimated to take about an hour but traffic around Ashford can be congested so aim to leave no later than 9.00 am. National Trust members please remember to bring your membership cards.
Saturday, June 8th - BBQ with our Dutch guests:
The BBQ on Saturday evening will be at Jean and Andrew’s house at Willow Cottage, Church Street, Whitstable, CT% 1 PG. Jean asks that everyone coming by car parks on Church Street and in their driveway as parking by the house is very limited. The weather forecast for the evening is not encouraging and Jean suggests that everyone dresses up warm. If the weather is poor the BBQ will be held in the garage. The cost per person is £12.00.
Sunday, June 9th – Farewell Brunch at the Granville:
The brunch to wish our Dutch guests farewell will be at the Granville, Faussett Hill, Lower Hardres, Canterbury, CT4 7AL starting promptly at 10.00 am.
Saturday, June 15th – Barn Dance:
Please push the sale of tickets to help make this a really successful evening.The Barn Dance on Saturday, June 15th starts at 7.30 pm and the cost is £20.00 per person including food but drinks are extra.
Sunday, June 23rd – Samba Band Walk:
On Sunday, June 23rd the Samba Band will play along the seafront leaving Whitstable Harbour at 1.00 pm for Seaview Caravan Park where there will be a beach BBQ with donations towards the cost of the food. The walk will be in support of Pilgrim’s Hospice and Open Your Heart to Bhutan and help is needed to collect along the way. Please sign-up if you can help.
Thursday, June 27th – Handover Meeting:
Pat hands over the Presidency of the Club to Sue on the evening of June 27th. The cost will be £17.50 per person and there is a form in the folder. As this will be a regular meeting of the Club everyone is expected to attend unless apologies are sent to Godfrey as usual. However, Godfrey asks that everyone indicates on the form in the folder whether they will be bringing guests and whether or not vegetarian options are wanted.
Saturday, June 29th – Car Parking:
The next car parking will be on Saturday, June 29th and Godfrey needs volunteers to sign-up as soon as possible to help as the numbers so far a bit thin.
Friday, September 6th – Charity Golf Day:
The Club Charity Golf Day in aid of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Alzeimher’s Research will take place on Friday, September 6th. Please help to recruit teams at £240.00 per team and hole sponsors at £60.00 per hole. On the day Nick needs help setting up, meeting and greeting, booking-in, selling raffle tickets and running the putting competition, from 9.30 am until midday and from 3.00 pm for an hour or so. There is a form in the folder so please sign-up if you can help or if you would like to join the meal in the evening.
Visitors and Greetings:
David B. passed on greetings from Lin Mitchell, a former DG, who sent her best wishes to the Club.
Raffle:
David M. won an African violet and David B. a bottle of wine.
Master of Alms:
Despite being up to something with his drains Nick was again successful.
