Thu, Jul 19th 2018 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Ian St John will address the Club
H&R: Ian Carrol & Peter Cleland
VoT: N/A

The third speaker in the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw's summer programme was Ian St John.

Ian lives in Wishaw and will have been a member of our Rotary Club for 50 years, this December. Ian’s subject was a reprise of the talks that he has given to the club over the years.

Having served his apprenticeship as a toolmaker with Phillips Electrical in Hamilton, he then moved to Kent where he worked for a lighting firm. On his return to a Wishaw, he bought a local coach building business from fellow Rotarian Bert Jackson and, after a number of years, he was asked to return to Phillips as the works manager. After successfully improving industrial relations within the plant, a few years later, he accepted a redundancy package and bought a sub post office and newsagents shop in Motherwell where he remained until his retirement a number of years ago.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Ronnie Moore, who, until recently, was also a sub post master.
