Our fourth speaker in the summer programme of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw was Paul Begley.
Paul gave the members an insight of how he became a social worker and his early career in the east before returning to Motherwell as a manager in Children’s Services, in Lanarkshire.
After retiring, Paul wanted to continue to help people and trained in family mediation, working with couples, who had recently separated, to assist with resolving issues relating to access to children and other problems.
Paul also works with local charity, Phew Respite, a local charity providing short breaks for children and adults who experience severe to profound learning difficulties. He gave us information on the services provided by Phew, including a games room, a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room and gymnasium that their guests are able to access and utilise to the best of their ability.
He went on to tell the members about commercial ventures that he has become involved in, out of ‘left field’, through his family. He now works with alarm company, Tyger Security Ltd., and recent acquisition, electrical contractors, Electricaire Ltd., in Bellshill.
You could, almost, say that Paul is busier in retirement than ever before.'What We Do' Main Pages:
