Rotary Region 1 Young Musician Final

and

National Final Report

The Regionla final was held in The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow on Sunday 22nd April. 15 competitors took part in the competition: 7 instrumentalists and 8 singers. The standard of performance was extremely high and as well as displaying their talents to the full, the contestants entertained an audience just short of 200 during the afternoon.

The adjudicators were Dr Kevin Bowyer, International organ recitalist and Organist to the University of Glasgow, Dr Kevin O’Connell, composer and Professor of composition at The Royal Irish Academy of Music and Mrs Hilary Dickie, specialist in vocal coaching. All three adjudicators were extremely impressed at the standard of performance and congratulated all competitors on their excellent musical and performing skills.

The winners were:

Instrumental category – Campbell Lang (Bassoon) sponsored by RC Eastwood

Vocal category – Eve Pearson Maxwell, sponsored by RC Mid Argyll

Eve went on to take second place in the The Grand Final of the 2018 Rotary International Britain & Ireland (Rotary GB&I) Young Musician Competition took place in Edinburgh on Saturday 19 May

The runners up in the Regional Competition were:

Instrumental category – Chloe Burberry (Alto Saxophone) sponsored by RC Alloa

Vocal category – Charlotte Jennings, sponsored by Rotary in Dundee

All four competitors will compete at the National Final in the James Watt Theatre at Heriot Watt University, Riccarton, Edinburgh on Saturday 19 May 2018 commencing at 11am.

The 2023-24 Gryffe Valley Rotary competition for Young Chef was sponsored by the Fox and Hounds, Houston, the venue of the club's meetings.

Young Chefs from Gryffe High, St Benedict’s High and St Columba’s School met in Gryffe High on the 29th November to compete in the first stage of this Rotary GB and I competition

2023/4 Club competition

The first round of this national competition was held in St Columba’s School, Kilmacolm on Monday 27th November. Seven teams competed, four in the Intermediate age category and three in the Senior category

To encourage walking in the local environment, we are promoting local walking groups, publishing local walking routes and creating the Gryffe Valley Way, a walking route the length of the River Gryffe.

The club has now spent more than £278,000 since its formation in 1995.

To support disabled sailing for wheelchair users at Castle Semple Loch Gryffe Valley Rotary purchased a special powered Wheelyboat to enabled those in wheelchairs to get out onto the water.

Getting ready for the Climbzone!

The club organises outings for groups of Renfrewshire Young Carers, with activities followed by a meal and drink. Some years we visited Xscape at Braehead, Hillington for the electric go-karts, and then Castle Semple Loch
