Heritage Walk around Princes Risborough
Mon 11th June 2018 at 10.30 - 13.00
Pat Voss organised a guided walk around Risborough’s historic town centre on Monday 11th June for 18 club members and partners. Chris Kingham, an expert on the town’s heritage, very kindly agreed to be our guide.
We met at the entrance to the Mount car park by St. Mary’s Parish Church at 10.30am and finished off at 1pm with a Snack buffet lunch ,costing £5 each, at the Whiteleaf Cross pub in Risborough's Market Square.
The weather was beautiful and the walk was really interesting. Chris described to us the history of the area through the ages. Did you know that human bones were discovered in a burial mound next to the Whieleaf Cross which have been carbon dated to 3,500 BC? Did you now that their were 4 farms in the town itself . There were also 11 pubs , a brewey next to St Mary's Church and a slaughter house behind the Rennie Grove Hospice shop.
We didn't have to walk to far as there is so much of historic interest packed in the centre of the town.
Many thanks to Chris Kingham for sharing his vast knowledge of the local area with us and Pat Voss for organising a really great start to the week
