Anja started working with ceramics over 20 years ago by attending

several ceramic courses and evening classes.

She throws almost all her work on the potters wheel, using white stoneware clay that can be fired to high temperatures and allows the colours of the glazes to develop.

Anja is inspired by Japanese and Chinese style of pottery and she
admires the glazes, - celadons, tenmokus, oxblood copper red.
To achieve these glazes the pots have to be fired in a kiln with an
open flame (gaskiln).
At a certain point during the firing the atmosphere is being starved of
oxygen by closing a damper over the exit flue. This creates a reduction
atmosphere and the very oxygen-hungry flame has to find oxygen from the glazes.
Magically copper green turns into red and iron honey-brown into greens
or blues.

Anja mixes all her glazes from raw materials and she never stops experimenting!

Firing to stoneware temperatures seales the clay against water. All the ceramic pieces can be kept outdoors all year round!
