Rotary club of Stirling meeting of 30th November 2018.
President Sandy Farquharson welcomed members to our Friday meeting.
Sandy, looking remarkably fresh, has just returned from a six-day charity bike ride in Nepal, raising money for local Nepalese charities.
During his trip he climbed a remarkable and exhausting 22,000 feet. He came across two current Rotary projects in the villages he passed through, all part of Rotary's worldwide activity. In addition, Sandy has just retired.
Next week's meeting, 7th December, will an SGM for the election of next year's office bearers, and on 14th December we will hold our Xmas lunch. The bulbs to be planted at Stirling station have now to hand, ready to plant on Tuesday. A good turnout required for this job.
Our speaker was Sandy Leven, past president and eminent horticulturalist, talking on this occasion not about plants, but about the many changes in Stirling during the forty years he has lived here. Many landmark buildings remain, but it was striking how many major structures have been built and subsequently demolished during this time, their purpose superseded. Plans exist for future developments but on the past record they may not last long or indeed ever be built.
Next week 7th December SGM, Visitor’s host Martin Ross. For more info
