Nearly half of all men are likely to get Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia - very common but not a cancer.
What does Prostate Scotland do?
Inform, educate, support, campaign and advance on prostate cancer. Want to achieve increased awareness and increased survival. Work across Scotland to support men and their families.
There is a series of workplace talks. Initiative to result in early diagnosis is called ‘Pull your finger out’.
Research into future treatment
Blue Horizon Robot Appeal to assist purchase equipment for surgery in Scotland. Raised £2.8m to instal Systems in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Since November 450 men have benefited.
Ten years ago PC was not on the radar screen, wider treatment options - surgery, radio therapy, hormone treatment and chemotherapy.
Also more options for benign conditions.
Rapid development too in advanced PC. Not curable but can be treated. Drugs can extend survival time and only this Sunday a study revealed further advances. Changes are happening and it is important that we continue to see these.
