Golfing Rotarians Christmas lunch

Wed, Dec 5th 2018 at 12:40 pm - 3:00 pm

Today we had our first celebration of Christmas at the Rhydspence Inn...

This was our first time at the Rhydspence Inn which is in Whitney on Wye but we were very impressed. The welcome was warm, the service was good and the food very tasty. I think many of us will be back again. After President Ivan welcomed everyone including some of our favourite guests Joan, Sylvie, Heather and Jack, we did a few bits of business then settled down to the meal followed by the "Goscars" presented by Dave Barwick. In summary:

Brian P received the award for the achievement of taking seven strokes to sink a ball - this is a new GOSCAR called "Bugger"!  Norman received the "Golfers Profanissaurus" award for expanding and enriching our knowledge of the English language. Kevin received the "Attempted Assassination" award for coming very close to putting Dave into a coffin....Paul was awarded the GOSCAR for the most original excuse for non-attendance....Dave was awarded the Leading Worm Burner award by Norman and Most Balls Found by Brian! Why not consider taking up golf and joining the boys ( and the newly formed girls section ) once a week at the Grove.....

The afternoon ended with another highlight - the awarding of a Paul Harris Fellowship Award to Dave Barwick for everything he has contributed to the success of our Rotary Club over the years including starting the 59 club ( raising over £8000 in 12 years ) being a Past President, offering his home for regular frugal lunches, organising events such as today, collecting in Presteigne in all weathers...the list goes on. A very well deserved and much appreciated award - congratulations Dave! A great afternoon all round......
