Young Speakers practice their public speaking skills

thumbnail view

On July 9th, students from St Nicholas'. Court Moor and Calthorpe Park Schools practised their public speaking skills before an audience of Rotarians, their partners and guests. The presentation of their chosen topics was well structured and arguments developed in a most convincing manner. All the talks were very well received and demonstrated the students' abilities to present an argument convincingly.

Very well done to all concerned, especially the students and their teachers.

Our photograph shows, back row, left to right: President John Gibbons, John Burton, Harriett Ross (St Nicholas', topic - Smoking), Grace Penny and Tai Bolger (Calthorpe Park, topic - The Power of Student Voices).

Front row, left to right: Emma Buchanan and Ella Holloway (Court Moor, topic - The Human Response to Fear) and Cara-Lou Hutchison (St Nicholas', topic - Appearance).

On the same evening, Gaelen Perry, one of Fleet Rotary's sponsored students to attend District 1145 Rotary Young Leader's Award (RYLA), spoke of his experience and what he felt he had achieved from attending RYLA. He was presented with his Certificate by John Burton
