FLEET ROTARY'S PRESIDENT 2018-2019
John Gibbons, President of Fleet Rotary for 2018-19
Personnel Director is new Rotary president
John Gibbons has been elected president of Fleet Rotary Club for the next year. Mr Gibbons graduated from Surrey University in 1972 and joined Blue Circle Cement the same year. An early career working in plant management was followed by promotion to Personnel Director in 1997. He served in the UK, USA and Greece before his early retirement in 2002.
Mr Gibbons and his wife, Christine, moved to Fleet in 1985 with their two daughters. They are members of Fleet United Reformed Church where he has served as Church treasurer for the past twelve years. Mr Gibbons joined Fleet Rotary in 1997 and the Club kindly granted a leave of absence in 1999 for his overseas service in Greece. On his retirement and return he became more involved with the Club activities.
Mr Gibbons said ”I enjoy being a Rotarian and it has given me the opportunity to put something back into society and to enjoy the fellowship of Club members”.
“I am delighted that Fleet Rotary is heavily involved with the development of our young people through our good relationship with the local schools and by Rotary organising a wide range of national competitions. Young people in Fleet and Church Crookham have won the Young Chef title three times and the Young Writer title, each time becoming champion from over 5000 entrants nationwide. It also says a lot about the dedication and quality of our local teachers. I hope that we can continue our winning ways this coming year”.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be Club president and I will look to the support of my fellow Rotarians to deliver another year of service to the local community and the wider world”.
