Challenging Stereotypes

A talk by writer and photographer Alex Rotas -
Club members partners and guests.


Bristol-based photographer and motivational speaker Alex Rotas has won awards for her photographs of elite athletes in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s who still compete in national and international events on the world stage. Alex also enjoys documenting the transformative power of sport and exercise by photographing older people who are new to exercise or picking up activity again after serious illness.

Alex has featured on numerous radio and TV programmes including Channel 4 News, BBC’s Truth or Scare series, Sky TV News and Radio 4’s Women’s Hour. She is a regular contributor to BBC Radio Bristol and other local radio and TV channels, and her images have appeared in online sites including the BBC website, The Mail, The Telegraph, and yahoo, as well as photography magazines, journals and newspapers both in the UK and worldwide.

She is an ambassador for England Athletics’ #RunTogether programme and Active Ageing (Bristol), co-hosts a weekly sports programme on Bristol local radio BCfm, The Midweek Sports Bar https://bcfmradio.com/sportsbar. She has held exhibitions throughout the UK as well as overseas in Europe and in the USA and she has given talks at arts festivals, camera clubs, in gyms and retirement villages.
