JOHN VARDY MEMORIAL AWARDS

The John Vardy Memorial Awards were held on Tuesday 11th of September at our regular lunchtime meeting at Haydock Park Golf Club. The recipients of this years awards were Shana Katir and Elisabeth Jeffrey from Hope Academy and Lucy Rasburn from Golborne High School.  Shana will be continuing her education at the University of Bolton studying Fine Arts whilst Elizabeth is going to Liverpool Hope University to study Criminology. Lucy will be going to sixth form at St John Rigby College, Wigan where she will be taking relevant A levels to then take a degree in Pharmacy.

Teachers from the respective schools, Andrew Mcgeown (Hope Academy) and Andrea Hickey (Golborne High) introduced their students and told club members why they had been chosen for this award. Each student was presented with a cheque for £200 towards their study costs. Cheques were presented by Geoff Shaw, Chairman Youth Services Committee who congratulated the students and wished them well for the future.

The John Vardy Memorial Awards are given in memory of the founder of the Rotary Club of Newton le Willows who dedicated much of his life to education. He was Principal of Redbank school.
