Donation to Chestnut Appeal
The first donation to charity from Wadebridge Wheels 2018
Wadebridge Rotary presents £5,300 to Chestnut Appeal
Wadebridge Rotary has presented £5,300 to the Chestnut Appeal for prostate cancer, the headline charity for its recent Wheels classic car show.
Lesley-Ann Simpson of the Chestnut Appeal came to the Rotary meeting on 16th August and received a cheque from president Mick Goward representing not only the Wheels donation, but also £300 raised by the club’s ‘Ride for Rotary’, in which members pedalled away on a static exercise bike in Molesworth Street, Wadebridge, covering the distance to Exeter without moving an inch.
Wadebridge Rotary is delighted to support the fight against prostate cancer, not least because two of its members have undergone prostate surgery in recent months.
This was the first and biggest donation from the £25,000 raised by Wheels this year. Awards have also been made to the Sunrise Appeal (£2,500), St Petroc’s Society (£2,000 plus £800 raised through the Localgiving website from Wheels exhibitors), Cruse Cornwall (£1,500), Wadebridge Foodbank (£1,200), Invictus, the mental health charity (£1,200), Restormel Mind (£1,000) and a dozen others. Some money has been reserved to meet further needs that might arise in the coming year from the local community.
