Hospital Consultant from India visits Blackpool South Rotary Club
Consultant Gastroenterologist, Dr Kannane Tirou is a member of the Rotary Club of Pondicherry Galaxy (Rotary Dist 2981), India.
For three weeks from the 23rd September to 15th October 2018, Dr Tirou is in England to work as a Consultant at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and contacted members of Blackpool South Rotary Club saying it would be nice to visit the Club and exchange ‘Flags of Friendship’.
Accordingly, on Monday 1st October, Dr Tirou met members of Blackpool South Rotary Club and guests at their venue, Blackpool Park Golf Club.
Kannane (pronounced Canon) received a spectacular welcome to the Club with a fanfare on the post horn from Honorary Member and Rotary Town Crier Barry McQueen, who then in true stentorian Town Crier style welcomed him to the Club. Dr Tirou spoke about his family and medical journey and his life in Pondicherry.
Dr Kirou was delighted and impressed with his welcome. He had a most enjoyable evening, and Honorary Member and Professional Comedian Tony Jo; a natural joker certainly had Kannane ‘in stitches’, which must have been a new experience for someone who in their professional life applied stitches after delicate surgery.
After the evening, Dr Tirou wrote, “I would like to thank you all for the lovely evening and the warm welcome that you have bestowed on me today. It was indeed a great honour to share my thoughts with you. On behalf of Rotary Club of Pondicherry Galaxy, I would like to extend my warm welcome to all of you to visit Pondicherry as you are all, well and truly, a part of the International Family of Rotary”.
Blackpool South Rotary President Pat McCarthy said, “To welcome a guest from another country to Blackpool South is truly in the Rotarian tradition because we are a worldwide organisation who share "Service above self" no matter where we are, and I look forward to the time when we can return the visit to Pondicherry”.
