Rotary charities evening

 

The Rotary Club of Halstead recently held its annual Charities Evening’ where funds raised throughout the year were donated to chosen Charites. Representatives of each of the charities were invited along to a formal dinner at the Colne Valley Golf Club and each gave a few words of thank and details of how the money would be used following the formal presentations by club President Keith Brownlie.

 

Recipients were:

Jackie Pell on behalf of Halstead Hospital league of Friends, she was pleased to receive a cheque and thanked the Club for the continued support over a number of years.

 

Veronica Harman on behalf of Halstead Day Centre she was  accompanied by Dorothy lodge MBE,JP.and David Lodge her husband. Both David and Dorothy are founding patrons of the Centre. They thanked Halstead Rotary for assisting to fund this local town asset

 

Penny Hume on behalf of Diabetes UK  This is one of the Presidents Keith’s own selected Charities and adds to the £1000  already raised via donations and a London to Brighton bike ride completed by Rotarian Tony Sale last September.

 

Elsie Hutchins and her mum Nina were also present as Elsie is one of the UK,s youngest Type one diabetic at Only 3. Years old she injects insulin. President Keith presented her with a teddy and book to thanked her for her support.

 

ProstateCancer.

David Learmonth on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK was presented with a cheque and thanked the Club in supporting this Charity.

 

Shirley Diver ex Mayor of Halstead, whose own chosen charity was TAPS( traveling for parents with sick children).

 

Chris Lunn on behalf of Earls Colne Scouts received a cheque to help rebuild the Scout Hut which is in a very poor state of repair.

 

 

President Keith emphasised the importance and value of Rotary as an organisation and how it was working in a quiet but determined way to assist the wider Community. He is also very keen to hear from any civic Minded person who would like to join the Club.
