Funeral of Syd Howarth MBE

The Funeral of Rotarian Syd Howarth MBE will be held at St. Clare’s Church, Central Avenue, Newton Aycliffe on Saturday 10th November at 12 noon.

It is with great sadness the family record the death of Syd Howarth, who passed away on Monday 29th October at in Darlington Memorial Hospital. Syd was comfortable and in no pain and surrounded by his loving family.

Syd Howarth (MBE) was a long standing member of Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club, Past District Governor and Paul Harris Fellow.

The funeral  will be held at St. Clare’s Church, Central Avenue, Newton Aycliffe on Saturday 10th November at 12 noon. Followed by Cremation at Wear Valley Crematorium for family and close friends. A funeral cortege will run from the Blue Bridge along St Cuthbert’s Way prior to the Funeral Service at St. Clare’s Church. Extra seating will be made available in the two church halls as well as speakers posted outside if necessary.

Friends, associates and well-wishers are all invited to join the family in a “Celebration of Syd’s Life” at a reception which will be held afterwards at the Xcel Centre, Long Tens Way, Newton Aycliffe where a bar and refreshments will be available. Books of Remembrance will be available at the church, afterwards at the Xcel Centre and Newton Press reception.
The family would like to thank all those who have sent condolence cards, messages of sympathy, words of encouragement, social media compliments, email tributes and hugs. We are completely overwhelmed by the show of support given to the whole family at this sad time.


Syd has requested no flowers, donations if desired, to be given to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, accepted at the Service, Funeral Reception, Newton Press or Whitehouse Funeral Directors.
