Beard for End Polio
East Sutherland Rotarian Alistair Risk recently fell and almost broke his jaw and as a result he could not shave for a week to ten days. He was about to remove the stubble when he had an idea --- a sponsored beard grow!! And as Polio Eradication is his pet charity – he runs the Polio Swim every year - he decided to grow a proper beard between the Armistice Day on 11th November and the Polio Swim on 22nd February and to seek sponsorship.
He hopes other Rotarians and friends will sponsor him at say £1 per inch or any fixed amount. On the day of the Swimathon he will seek additional opportunities to gather some cash such as £1 to give the beard a tug; £2 for a tickly kiss (and a £1 or more to avoid one!!!) and the highest bidder (hopefully over £50) can shave off his beard!!!! Every £ raised by Alistair will be trebled by Rotary the Bill Gates Foundation.
Donations can be made on the Rotary club of East Sutherland web site
www.sutherland.rotary1010.org and clicking on our MyDonate link.
Meantime he hopes to be available as a Santa Substitute at Christmas. Photo shows Alistair just before his fall and the start of the stubble growth. Other photos showing his progress will be posted at intervals.
Alistair is now a quarter of the way through his growing time and the picture shows the effect. When it is all over, he will sell tickly kisses and beard tugs or you can pay to stay away or pay big to be the person to shave off his beard. Donations can be made through the Rotary Club of East Sutherland Web page My Donate facility. So far, the first £100 is in and Bill Gates will treble anything he raises for Polio.
