THE ROTARY CLUB OF CHELTENHAM NORTH
BULLETIN DECEMBER 2018
Christmas Greetings from the President
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Several windows have been opened in our Advent calendars, beleagured retailers are exhorting us to spend ever more and my year as President is already almost halfway complete. You will not be surprised if I confess that It feels as if the entire six months has been spent in nothing but planning and enjoying Rotary events. Our Gala Dinner at Lilley Brook and the Carol Concert will, as ever, provide a glorious prelude to the Christmas season. John and I are eagerly anticipating two weeks with our families even though we will surely regret the over-indulgence come mid-January!
My sincere thanks to you all for your efforts on behalf of our club and the greater good of our communities. May I wish you and your families a happy and peaceful Christmastide.
Membership – Michael Rouse
I am pleased to report that Membership numbers are still increasing. Lately, I have received three more proposal forms handed to me and the Membership Committee is arranging to interview all candidates as soon as possible. However, as the Christmas activities will take priority and some interviews will need to be deferred until the New Year. Last night another person said she would be interested in joining our Club which is very encouraging. Our Club at present seems to have a very positive formula to attract new members, long may it last.
May I remind members that there is a new membership form which must be used obtainable from our Secretary and then an interview is arranged at a mutually convenient time with the Membership committee made up of three senior members. I f approved a 7-day Notice is then issued by the Secretary to all members to consider whether the possible candidate is a suitable person to join the Rotary Club of Cheltenham North. Any objection received can be anonymous and the prospective applicant will be informed of the result. If no objection is raised an Induction Date is arranged and the Protocol is as follows.
New Member and Proposer are called before the Meeting.
Proposer gives a brief introduction of the new member.
All members Stand for the “Object of Rotary” to be read.
Induction by the President using a standard form of words.
Badge and Information issued to new member.
New member will be given the opportunity to say a few words if they wish.
