Three new Paul Harris Fellows
105 years of Rotary service....
President Sandy had the pleasure of presenting three Paul Harris Fellowships today, here are their citations:
We have quite a few in the Club already and I hope you all read that Paul Harris’s former home in Chicago is being transformed into a Rotary Museum and should be open in 2020.
One of the surprising but pleasant tasks of a Rotary Club President is to be able to award Paul Harris Fellowships to those Rotarians who have fully absorbed the Rotary objects and in many ways have sought over the years, in their own way, to demonstrate the power of service to both ROTARY and our COMMUNITY.
In this context, I have great pleasure in asking 3 people to come out to the front here to receive from the Club their PHF awards.
Firstly BRIAN WALLACE. Brian has been a member of Rotary since 1973. He has been a member of several different Rotary Clubs and is a Past President of Rotary Cullompton in Devon from 1988. He came here in 1989. He was a Round Tabler and chaired a 41 Club in the 1970s. He is in PROBUS and remains a strong, quiet but active supporter of Rotary Clitheroe.
He has given 45 years of service to Rotary and charitable bodies.
Secondly, PETER CUNLIFFE. Joined Clitheroe Rotary in 1990 and was President in 1999/2000. He has served the Club in many different ways, including his current Almoner role. As most of you know Peter is strong Church Member, and a great Organist, and has played the Organ in most of the churches. He gives of his time freely. But I suppose he will be best remembered in recent times in the Club for his championing of Rotakids over several years, his entertaining musical events, and being the Great Waddington Bowler. He has given 29 Years of service to the Community and Rotary.
Thirdly, GEOFF ISHERWOOD. Joined Clitheroe Rotary in 1989 and quickly got into this stride and was active in the Club becoming President in 2006/07. Always quick to lend his legal brain (& contacts) to the various Rotary activities, and another stalwart of the Club over many years. Latterly since his retirement from Forbes Solicitors, is our Sports Officer as he wants to get away from legal things. He has been instrumental in building the relationship with Blackburn Rotary Golfers which now brings important cash raising potential to our Club.
He has given 31 Years of service to Rotary and many Charities.
Members showed their congratulations to Brian, Peter and Geoff, who in total have 105 years of service to Rotary, in the usual way.
