John Banks receives coveted Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship
Presented at the Members Dinner - Wed 27th February 2019 held at the RAU
When not occupied with his Rotary secretarial duties John keeps busy
He is widely read in many areas, especially world history, including details of both World Wars, resulting in a good memory for dates and facts across many subjects. This has made him a popular choice for quiz teams.
John has researched his family history extensively, helped by photographs inherited from relatives. Through identifying and restoring these he has been able to add faces to names and discover some glimpses into the stories of their lives.
His other interest in photography is for landscapes and he has a large collection of these taken during his travels in many parts of the world.
Members of Cirencester Rotary Club will know of John's well developed sense of humour nurtured by his parents and further fuelled by a long term enjoyment of radio and TV comedy shows.
He has a large record collection (he is a child of the 60's) and also enjoys live music and film.
As a lifelong rugby fan, John has been a season ticket holder at Gloucester for years but his heart is with his home town team of Northampton Saints.
In the summer it's cricket, both live and on TV.
Walking, swimming and gardening keep him fit along with spending time with his family. John loves being a Dad and Grandad and, having brought up his two sons, his grand daughters are providing him with a special joy and fascination.
John is a very valued member of Rotary. He has been a member since 1994. Over that time, he has been involved with Disabled Sports, InterCare, RIAT, District Quizzes, Skittles and Whelford Pools. He has been Secretary for the Club for many years which is one of the busiest jobs. John invited me to join Rotary in 1995 which I thank him for – sometimes.
It now gives me great pleasure to ask President Jim to present you John with a Paul Harris Fellowship.
