Pres. Andrew Steven will hand over the responsibilities of the Club to P.E. Andrew Murray who will then induct other Office Bearers and convenors
H&R: Peter McCrossan & John McDonald
VoT: S.V.P. Katrina Gibbons

Tonight the members of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw held our Handover Dinner in the company of family and friends. During the course of the evening, outgoing President Andrew Steven handed over the presidential chain of office to the incoming President, for Rotary Year 2019-20, Andrew Murray.

The evening started with Irish Bingo and the last person standing was Rotarian Sandy Murray who won a fine bottle of brandy.

The musical entertainment was provided by talented instrumentalists, currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Rebecca Steven, on violin, and Struan Young, on accordion. We were treated to two excellent sets of Scottish, traditional and classical music.

Margaret Mair presented the John Mair Trophy to our Young Achiever, Liam Hastie, a pupil at Coltness High School. Liam was nominated for this award by Rivals Gym, Wishaw. In the citation, Stewart Allan, of the Rivals Gym, gave highlights of Liam’s contribution to the Club, advising that Liam joined the gym, at the age of five, in 2008, and has, over the years, represented his country in the sport of kick boxing winning many titles including two gold medals at the Unified World Championships in Tuscany in 2013. In 2018, he was awarded his black belt first dan and Liam is now a junior instructor at the Rivals gym where he instructs and encourages the junior members. A worthy winner of our Young Achiever Award.

Two Rotarians, who are already Paul Harris Fellowship holders, Hughes Lumsden and Ian St John, had their awards upgraded to receive a Paul Harris Fellowship pin with Sapphires, in recognition of each having 50 years of service in the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw. In addition, Hughes and Margaret Mair received Honorary Membership of the Club in recognition of their service to Rotary.

Before his concluding remarks, newly installed President Andrew Murray presented the incoming Senior Vice President and Junior Vice President, Katrina Gibbons and Charles Keeper, respectively, with their chains of office.

Katrina then proposed the Vote of Thanks.
