Rotary Young Musician 2019
Harpist Sophie Costa is presented with her trophy for winning the District Finals of the Rotary Young Musician Competition 2019
Rotary in the East Midlands has been running the Rotary Young Musician for more than 20 years, and both the Rotary Club of Lutterworth Wycliffe and Lutterworth Rotary Club are keen participants in this annual event. The local heat of the competition took place at Lutterworth Methodist Church on Sunday, 20th January, and 4 talented youngsters took part: a pianist, a clarinettist, a harpist, and a vocalist. The performances were all of a very high standard delighting the audience of family members and Rotarians. All 4 entrants achieved a high score and were praised be the adjudicator Robert Foreman, the highest score going to Jessie Lee, a vocalist.
As a result of these heats, all 4 entrants were sponsored by the Rotary Clubs to go through to the next round of the competition, the District Final on March 9th. We were delighted when one of our sponsored musicians, harpist Sophie Cost, won the District Finals and went on to the regional finals in Doncaster where she was a runner up. The picture shows Sophie being presented with her trophy for winning the District Final by Wycliffe Rotary’s President Ian and Moira Bartlett of Leicester Rotary Club, one of the District organisers.
