The District Governor's visit

Rodney Spokes is our District Governor this year.

His message to the district follows:

“Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves” is the new Rotary International Vision Statement being introduced worldwide in 2019/20. This identifies what makes Rotary different from other organisation. And the theme of Rotary Connects the World also reminds us that as an organisation we are unique in having members on the ground in 200 countries of the world – with accountability and transparency overseeing projects and fundraising for our Foundation.

However, our Rotary International President Mark Maloney reminds us that we are a Club based organisation. The clubs are where Rotary happens, his priorities are to support and strengthen Clubs at the community level, preserve Rotary’s culture as a service-oriented membership organisation, whilst testing new approaches for growth.

So leading on from this our objectives for the 2019/20 Rotary year are to Increase our impact by doing a better job of measuring the results and outcome of the time and money we invest as Rotarians – which will give a basis for news stories around the world and in our own communities. Expand our reach by growing diversity, creating new channels into Rotary, increase openness and appeal. Build awareness of our Rotary brand and what we do for communities. Enhance engagement because to do more, we need more help by engaging members in projects, developing partnerships and involving family, friends and colleagues who share our values. Increase our ability to adapt by building a culture of research, innovation, willingness to take calculated risks, streamline governance to the essentials and concentrate on Rotary Core values whilst taking account of flexibility.

And whilst we do this remembering three key words Fun, Flexibility and Kindness.
